Traditional bandage:

  1. Leave bandage on for at least two hours. The tattoo can remain bandaged for up to 24 hrs if you are not in a convenient place to wash it properly (traveling, working, etc)

  2. Remove bandage and wash well with Dr. Bronners unscented castile soap or anti-bacterial soap with no dyes or perfumes! Pat dry with a paper towel and allow to air dry.

  3. Repeat this process of gently hand washing your tattoo twice daily for 2-3 days.

  4. To moisturize I recommend natural oils (vitamin E oil, coconut, sweet almond oil, etc.) Apply very thin coats two to three times a day after cleaning. NEVER over saturate the tattoo.

  5. Once the tattoo starts peeling lightly, you can continue to use natural oil or switch to non-fragrant white lotion or other natural dye free skin moisturizer.

THINGS TO AVOID:

  • NO direct sunlight for the first two weeks and no sunscreen until healed.

  • NO submerging tattoo in any type of water while healing: This includes hot tubs, lakes, swimming pools and saunas.

  • NO picking, scratching or rubbing your tattoo.

  • NO washing or exposing tattoo to any soaps or lotions with lots of ingredients, especially fragrance. The least amount of chemicals the better. After the healing period you can resume use of all products.

  • NO pet hair or fur on or around the tattoo area.  Although we love our furry friends this can be a very easy way to get an infection, clean all linens and avoid any contact with animal hair or heavily trafficked areas with pet hair and dander.  A lint brush and keeping new tattoo in clean areas is important.  Pet hair attached it self quickly to surfaces with ointment or lotion of any sort.

  • NO tight or restrictive clothing rubbing and scratching tattoo. Shoes, straps and other tight clothing can do much damage to a healing tattoo.

    Derm Sheild/Second Skin:

  1. Leave clear bandage on for around 3-5 days. Bandage is waterproof so u can shower regularly. However, do not submerge tattoo in a bathtub/pool during the healing process. A natural fluid pocket of blood and plasma may form inside the bandage, often dark color. Do not worry, ur body producing this fluid is perfectly normal and is part of the healing process. It does look a little nasty tho.

  2. To remove bandage, take a shower and run warm water over the bandage to help loosen the adhesive around the edges. Slowly remove and wash tattoo and surrounding area with anti-bacterial soap then pat dry with a clean towel.

  3. Let your tattoo breathe for several hours after removing your bandage. Do not moisturize until ur tattoo is as dry as the un-tattooed skin.

  4. Wash ur once or twice a day for the first 3 days exposed with anti-bacterial soap. After washing and drying apply a thin layer of unscented water-based lotion or natural oil. Continue to moisturize your tattoo to help complete the healing process and to keep it looking fresh.
